BENNETT LAKE…the END OF THE CHILKOOT TRAIL

A thrilling ride on a narrow gauge track

Trail through Dead Horse Gulch on the White Pass Trail of 98. So many animals were lost on this trail that it had to be closed for a month because of the stench. This trail was the alternative to packing your 1 ton of supplies over the Chilcoot Trail.

Replica of the boats that were built at the top of the Chilkoot.

Sunday, July 05

This is our last day in Alaska and we spent it on the White Pass and Yukon Narrow Gauge Railroad which runs from Skagway, Alaska to Carcross (Caribou Crossing) in the Yukon. It used to run all the way to Whitehorse.

(See post on July 3rd for more on this trail.)
